About “Best Food Grocery”

The goal of this project was to design a grocery store in a post-pandemic world. The grocery store is equipped with shopping cart washers that wash each cart between use to maintain a safe environment. The grocery store also accommodates customers with a drive-thru pick-up area to receive your pre-ordered groceries.

Located in the heart of LA, this store has a little to offer everyone. The top floor boasts a wine tasting bar that transforms into an event and entertainment venue where late-night trivia and bingo occurs in the evening.

I started this project by examining the existing space. I created a program of different Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH) spaces that I wanted to include. I then began creating prototypes of different layouts. I used trace paper and a print out of the original floor plan of the existing building to create my first versions of the floor plan for the grocery store.

After I had my first version of the floor plan completed, I then began creating different study models to help inspire my design. For example I used this inspiration of parametric design to create my check out counter for my grocery store.

After I had my floor plan and my study models ready, I started to work on my Revit and SketchUp models. I used my Revit model to create elevations, sections and to ideate how all the building components would work in the space. The BIM model provided a lot of information about the set-up and design of the interior of the building. I used SketchUp to add furniture and decor to the space so I could create my renderings and a plug-in called Enscape to render my scenes and video.
